Frequently Asked Questions
What's the long pepper?
The long pepper has been grown and cultivated in India and Southeast Asia for hundreds of years, with its fruit being harvested for spices and Ayurvedic medicinal purposes.
The traditional name of the long pepper is “pippali” and the scientific name is “piper longum”.
Only recently has modern science been able to reconfirm these ancient beliefs with supporting research and clinical trials.
What makes the long pepper so special?
The long pepper can be pharmacologically classified as an adaptogenic or stress response regulating medicinal herb, with a broad spectrum of therapeutic bioactivity.
Piperlongumine, piperine, and other amide alkaloids have been identified as the major and structurally unique bioactive molecules of the plant.
What are zombie cells?
Senescent “zombie” cells are cells that no longer divide and enter a permanent state of cell-cycle arrest (where they’re no longer part of a healthy cell cycle).
Because they’re not actually living, yet they don’t die, they’re often nicknamed “zombie cells”.
These cells release chemicals which act as poisons, causing damage to nearby healthy cells, facilitating a downward spiral, and triggering aging and age-related aliments.
As we grow older, senescent cells accumulate in our bodies. This process is also known as Cellular Senescence.
What are Senolytics?
The word “senolytic” comes from a combination of “senescence” and “lytic”, the Greek word for destroying.
Senolytics are certain small molecules that can selectively kill senescent “zombie” cells, thereby promoting healthy aging.
What is Piperlongumine?
Piperlongumine (also called piplartine or piperlongumin) is an amide alkaloid constituent of the fruit of the long pepper (piper longum), that has been rigorously studied with well-documented health benefits.
Piperlongumine has been identified as a natural, plant-derived, potent senolytic, able to selectively kill senescent “zombie” cells and protect against age-related disorders.
How much Piperlongumine is in a serving?
Each 1,000 mg serving of our patent pending Fermented Long Pepper Extract contains 10 mg (1%) of piperlongumine.
What are the benefits of fermentation?
Prior to our 30:1 ratio extraction process, our long pepper undergoes a 96-hour fermentation, which has multiple benefits.
Research shows that fermentation increases the amount of beneficial micro-organisms and bioactive substances, such as phenolic compounds, amino acids, and antioxidants.
Fermentation can also improve the bioavailability of the supplement and the body’s ability to better absorb it.
Is your fermented long pepper extract safe to consume?
Research has shown that the long
pepper is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) and consumption is safe and well-tolerated by the body.

The purity levels in our Fermented Long Pepper Extract are always greater than 99%.
We use an industry-standard High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method to test the purity levels.

What is the extract ratio of your fermented long pepper extract?
Our Fermented Long Pepper Extract utilizes a potent extraction process at a 30:1 extract ratio, meaning that a single, 1,000mg serving of Fermented Long Pepper Extract is equivalent to 30,000mg of standardized long pepper powder.
Is your fermented long pepper extract gluten free?
Yes! Our Fermented Long Pepper Extract is gluten free.
As per FDA requirements, in order to claim gluten free status, the product must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten.
We test our product utilizing a R5 Sandwich ELISA method. We make our lab tests transparent on our Quality & Testing page (click here).
Our facility does produce products that contain gluten, however, through proper sourcing, cleaning, storage, production, and testing protocols (like the lab tests mentioned above), we are able to keep our product safe and gluten free.
Is your fermented long pepper extract vegan?
Yes! Our Fermented Long Pepper Extract is 100% vegan and plant based, including our capsule shell, made of glutinous rice starch (which is gluten free) and is easily digested and absorbed by the body.
Is your fermented long pepper extract GMO free?
Yes! Our Fermented Long Pepper Extract is free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
Is your fermented long pepper extract all natural?
Yes! We are pleased to say that our Fermented Long Pepper Extract is an all-natural product.
We don't use any fillers or additives or synthetic agents.
Is there research supporting fermented long pepper extract?
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, we strive to give you as much comfort as possible in our product, through bringing you insight into both our production quality and supporting evidence of benefits.
There are numerous, well-documented health benefits of the long pepper (scientifically known as 'piper longum') and piperlongumine.
Piperlongumine is a potent, all-natural senolytic agent, which is able to selectively target and kill senescent "zombie" cells.
Senolytic agents have shown interesting anti-aging bioactivities, which have led to great interest in their use by the pharmaceutical industry.
There has been significant research on these compounds and topics, supporting a wide range of benefits.
We've included a deep selection of relevant scientific studies and research articles on our Research page (click here to visit).
Does your fermented long pepper extract undergo 3rd party lab testing for quality assurance?
Absolutely!
Each batch of our product undergoes rigorous and detailed 3rd party lab testing, to make sure our ingredients are consistently of the highest quality and meet the best of international standards.
We test for purity, heavy metals, solvents, pesticides, and bacteria.
We strive to give our customers confidence, and in full transparency, we make our results available on our Quality & Testing page (click here to visit).

What should I feel (if anything) when taking your fermented long pepper extract?
Unlike nootropics (cognitive enhancers) or energy boosters, where you might be able to feel a short-term, immediate physical or mental impact, our Fermented Long Pepper Extract works on a cellular level, as a senolytic agent, which isn’t necessarily physically discernible.
However, some customers do report tangible improvements after taking our Fermented Long Pepper Extract , which include improved biomarkers (in blood tests), increased immunity (getting sick less often and quicker recovery time), improved memory and cognition (less brain fog), less muscle/joint soreness, better digestion, and increased energy.
There is a bit of empty space in the capsule - is this normal?
The total empty size inside each capsule is large enough to contain 680mg.
We put 500mg of Fermented Long Pepper Extract inside each capsule.
We don't use any fillers, as we want to keep our product as natural and pure as possible.
Depending on the natural settling of the powder, there may be some empty space inside the capsule, which would be normal.
What should my supplements smell like?
We at CellFend try to keep our products as pure and natural as possible.
As such, we don't use coating, dilutions, or masking agents to conceal the smell or taste.
So if your bottle has a bit of a funny smell to it, then don't worry! It's natural...
What are your capsules made of?
Our capsules are made of glutinous rice starch, which is gluten free.
The name "glutinous" is misleading, as it's actually gluten free.
The name simply comes from the consistency of that rice varietal when cooked.
Our capsules are also vegan (many non-vegan capsules contain gelatin, which is an animal byproduct).
How much should I take and when should I take it?
Each capsule is 500mg.
One serving is equal to 2 capsules (1,000mg).
Take one serving (2 capsules) once a day with food, or as directed by a health care professional.
